Did anyone get this guy? There are two versions that I am aware of,
one with a white t-shirt and one with black. I lucked out at a small
store not getting much business and got both!

I am still looking to play with anyone in the East Bay Area of California...

recent trade acquisitions

I seldom get to play. matter of fact, I don't think I've played in 6 months. So nowadays, I guess I fit more into the "collector" category, even though I fancy myself a "player/collector". but anyway; recently I've made some real sweet acquisitions... most notably:

Jean Grey Pheonix LE

I've got some 14" Marvel figures coming in the next week or so; a Sentinel (can you say Sentinel Squad one everyone?) Galactus (BIGGER and more detailed than the Con LE; which I have) and Apocalypse (eh..why not?). I plan on making scenerio rules for them that don't involve them having dials. The sentinel one will have rules for breaking him apart, and the peices will continue to attck! Galactus will be used as a collosal terrain peice that will have BFC-like affects on play; and I have no Idea What I'm going to do with Apocalypse... but hey... why not get him anyway?

I also scored loads of great Star Wars Minis, and am buying another $300 worth of Rares and Very Rares this next week as well (getting them for $250).

I really want to get My hands on a Spectre before DragonCon; but other than that, these purchases this week will leave me sitting pretty. I should be able to handle my addiction with ease now, trading for what I need buy buying by the Brick & case. I have a whole new setup for Case buying now, as I'm boycotting the one remaining Games store that isn't in the boondocks. (they gouge like crazy)

So....

What have you acquired recently? Want to share the details of any sweet trades? anybody interested in looking at my trading thread?

Hey all,
I am new to the forum, but not to Heroclix. Have been playing a while.
I was wondering a few things. One, is there anyone in the Cleveland, OH area interested in getting together for gaming?
And two, have you all read about Wixkids' new game scheduled for release later this year called HorrorClix? Sounds like a lot of fun. Just wondering about your thoughts.

I have been on many websites for these. The prices seem to vary greatly as do the shipping costs.
Anyone found a good site that has a decent balance?

also, what does everyone think about the Ultimates booster set figures?
I have only seen one- Beast, and am unimpressed. Hope the biggie looks better...

So, it is clear that the Heroclix community is really talking much so I decided to break the Ice. This is going to be a spot where you can talk about anything, that is miniature related. I decided to share the number 1 most wanted on my list right now. I would probably have to say Dark Pheonix.

I have been into miniatures and gaming since I was 10. I get into it off and on but lately with my band and film-making and astrology mentorship, time is tough. I had always been intrigued by the Mage Knight collection and decided to get the marvel stater set.

a friend at work wants to play on our lunch break.
any ideas for 30 minute games?
I was thinking 2 vs.2 in neat hero combos.
Classics like Wolvie and Collosus, Cloak and Dagger or Powerman and Iron Fist,
or kooky combos like Hellboy and Doctor Strange or something.
Only the point values seem like an issue,
any ideas folks?

X-Men Lengends for PS2 and X-Box was a wonderful game that follows the same rules as Heroclix. Wonderful either for a single player, or multi! Has anyone tried X-Men Rise of Apocalypse yet? Would like to hear reviews.

When the hell is DC going to get on the ball and launch a DC video game???

how many active members are actually a part of this group?

I count three.

there's me. Then Darla joined, and we had some nice chats. Then Micca Joined and has basiclly taken over as group leader. but who else is still in here and active?

I think (since he's a Judge and all) that we should ask the admin to make Micca our leader, and that we should start a new era by eliminating all inactive members and starting a membership Drive here on tribe.

I mean, I belong to HCRealms... and they are THE premiere site for Clixers. I would suggest that serious players join in on the disscussions and trading over there. But I also love tribe; as much as I bad mouth it sometimes. I like the community here, and wouldn't mind it at all if "heroclix" came up on the top of my recent posts lists every once in awhile.
House Rules : 3D terrain

HOUSE RULES

When you decide that "house rules" encompasses anything that players can come up with as WizKids has for Hero Clix; to such a degree as to make a rule legitimizing them, it opens the doors for players to really make the game their own. This goes from Games at home to Games at Venues, to Games at Conventions. Players at home use their own 3D objects like miniature cars. Many Venues have House Rules that they feel helps keep the game fair; like no Duplicate characters on a team. Conventions are a circus of fan scenarios, where the sky is the limit.

I myself like to make scenarios for Cons, and have many of my own house rules. I'm going to share some of what I've done, and what I've seen, and I hope to hear about everything you've seen & done!

To keep in step with Micca; I'm going to talk about House rules for 3D terrain, and terrain in general.

The Heroclix Maps have 1.5-inch square spaces and are twenty-four spaces square. Two flat dimensions in orthogonal reality. We can do better than that right? First lets throw out the Size limit. As long as all players get an equal share of starting space; any size map is playable. Smaller maps Create Brawl situations with nowhere to run; larger ones give teams more maneuverability and encourage tactic and movement strategy. I prefer the latter; but its fun to set a small map up sometimes, particularly for smaller games. Now that we've eliminated that, consider the possibility of doing away with Squares all together! But we'll get to that a little bit later.

The easiest way to achieve 3D terrain is to simply fashion (foamcore is a very inexpensive and durable material) or find boxes the size of the rooftops on the standard Maps, Paste the rooftops on the tops and decorate the sides, as you like. Some like to take Photos or even better, art from comics and size it to fit their buildings. There are numerous places online to get your hands on Buildings that others have made that range from flat images that can be printed on cardstock and glued to your box or foamcore buildings to Paper models that you can fold and glue together for a more detailed look. The advantage to this approach is that it keeps the rules of the game intact and requires no house rules.

the next level up from here is to break off the standard maps and make your own battlefields. There are also numerous places online to find Custom Maps, some that have 3D building models included. Most of these Maps and Buildings (I've seen cars too) are free. Some ask for a donation to site management. I wouldn't pay anyone anything unless you find something really special. Some of these maps are higher quality than the Game's own maps... which are really quite simplistic. Unless you build anything really unusual, it’s unlikely that you'll need rules changes here either.

Lets take it a step further. There are various 3D tile sets available in the same scale as Heroclix Squares. Some are Fantasy, Some are Sci Fi, and plain squares are fairly easy to come by. Depending on what you want to set up any and all of these could be useful. Using Blocks you can set various levels of terrain, and top them with Tiles. These sets often come with wall segments that are good for simulating indoor maps. I've seen cast resin model buildings in this scale that have multiple stories. The roof comes off, and each floor is removable by putting a finger into the stairwell and lifting the floor up. These are great. There are lots of Fantasy buildings available, but they've just started producing some in an urban style circa 1960's New York. Mom & Pop stores, Supermarkets. Pretty cool. Surprisingly, there is still no need for rules changes at this level. However, I find it useful to institute a rule regarding placement in general when using 3D terrain. Because some precarious placement becomes possible, which can be a point of contention between players; consequences should be in place. If a piece falls, for example out of a tree; it should take damage. This damage should be unavoidable. In this way Players take their chances with risky placement.

Lets take all the changes we've made and add one more option before we move on: House Rules 3D objects. I could discuss this all day, so I'll save the bulk of this discussion for another time. However, let's discuss 3D terrain objects.

Trees are fun. You can find Scale model Railroad terrain trees in a number of styles at reasonable prices. You can also get kits to build your own, or go so far as to build them from scratch. Whatever approach you take, you'll want to make sure that the bases you mount them on is compatible with the terrain system you're using, and that they are weighted on the bottom to prevent them from falling over. They make your layout look really cool, but they get in the way when placing pieces in the same hex. So this will call for our first rule to clear up any disagreements. You'll want to discuss this with the other players, as there are two ways to go here. Either character cannot occupy spaces with trees in them, or characters on that space are marked with a token to indicate which space they are legally in. The first option rules out any possible disagreement, the second allows more flexibility but opens the doors to argument during games. You want to prevent that with your house rules as much as possible. Some of my players didn't care for not being able to use trees for cover properly, so we switched to a more flexible system. If the character is at least 2/3 on the space, the character is on that space.

Cars are also fun. And the potential for house rules is vast. But as far as terrain is concerned, there are only a few things to mention. Some maps have cars on them, and its fun to simply place your model cars right on the spots where they are printed. This opens you up for two options. You could rule them as unmovable terrain features, that you could destroy like walls, but that don't count as objects; or you could make them Heavy Objects. This can be a lot of fun, but if you do the latter, it requires a rule stating that once the car has been moved, the terrain becomes clear, otherwise it could get confusing.

Fences and Barbed wire is a great terrain feature. Mount them on some stands and put them anywhere that makes sense on the map. Usually its best to make these two or three spaces long each. Shorter pieces help to make more realistic layouts possible, by finishing off corners and whatnot. I find the best rule for this is to make these impede movement as Hindering terrain does; but that they do no block line of sight. With barbed wire you may make them deal a click of reducible damage if destroyed. Regardless, they shouldn't be usable as weapons, as that would be too many on the map. I have lots of these and they make 3D play much more dramatic. I used Barbed wire segments I got in packages of Army men. I got a lot for very little money. It was one of the most common pieces. All they needed was bases and some turf & glue!

Okay. That covers the basics. Now lets get advanced.

Hexes. I love em. I find that they don't suffer the diagonal range advantage that squares do. You should give them a shot. But, they require rules changes. There are lots of hex terrain products available for other games. Numerous giant robot systems run on the right scale of hexes, and many terrain pieces can be found. But I'll go you one further. There is a great product on the market that is ripe for adaptation: Heroscape. Milton Bradley came out with this game just last year, and its perfect for outdoor 3D terrain in a Heroclix game. The game comes with Lego-style interlocking hex tiles that can make a limitless combination of terrain shapes in four colors: Stone, Sand, and Water & Grass. The rules that come with the game are so perfect that it’s easiest to adapt heroclix to their system instead of the other way around! Buy the game and you'll se what I mean. Human scale Figures all get a base height of five in Heroscape; so most Heroclix Characters fit in that category. Larger scale figures will have a higher height. Measure how many stacked tiles high the figure is before the battle. This is its height under the heroscape rules. Big Figures and Galactus needn't worry about such things. A few tweaks are needed where movement powers are concerned, because now all characters can climb. So leap/climb allows you to ascend your height in one move without hindrance, or to pass through terrain that doesn't exceed your height as if not elevated. Phasing/Teleport works similarly; and of course flight allows you to ignore elevation altogether. The movement rules for Heroscape are simple and elegantly done, and fit together with Heroscape rules perfectly. Most rules changes you have to make are very much common sense. Pick up the game and we can discuss the finer points!

Now lets go just one step further. This is my ultimate goal; the final step I have not yet instituted. I love hexes and I've been using them for a while now. Here's the thing though; the hexes make it hard to do interior locations. That got me to thinking about the nature of inside spaces versus outside spaces. Indoor places tend to be orthogonal, square rooms, rectangular halls etc... While outdoor spaces are more open. So hexes for outdoor terrain & Squares for Indoor terrain. That’s easy enough to do one or the other. If you're playing outdoors, get out your hex map or hex tiles... if you're playing indoors, go for your traditional indoor maps or dungeon tiles. But what if you want both in one map? I'll let you in on my secret plan. Wall segments that have heroscape hexes along one edge and dungeon tiles along the other. I plan on doing this by cutting tiles in half, and gluing them on either side of the wall sections. The walls can come from lots of different sources. Resin casted walls are easy to find; but you can get some great wall pieces if you gut some action fleet play sets from the Micro machines line. You can even build them yourself. It all depends on how detailed you want your layout to be.

There's one more ultimate level. And I have plans for that too. Print hexes (or squares) on clear Mylar and tape it to a glass tabletop. Put this table over the playing area, Match up the spaces with the map below. This is the Soaring area! Neat huh? I suggest a Laser pointer to find where on the map below a space above is.

I plan on incorporating all these rules together into a gaming table of my own design and construction starting with a large round dinner table.

So far, I've gotten everything except the indoor terrain tiles; Wall segments and Soaring area.

As you see, the rules needn't be bent for most 3D terrain, but after a certain point, some rules additions need to be added. One of Heroclix's greatest strengths is its adaptability. Use its flexibility to make it whatever you want!

3D Terrain

Okay to start with we'll go over the basics of the indoor and outdoor Adventure Kits available from WK.

By far the three best peices in the set are, Dumpster, Lightpole and Desk.

So lets start with the dumpster its a heavy object thats never destroyed. The player that uses it, places it in any square adjacent to the target after use. Now think about this it means I have an unlimited Heavy for my Statesman or Hulk to play with, I can charge, hit with the heavy and then place it in teh square right next to me so I can use it again next turn, rather nasty if you ask me..

The light post, again a heavy object, but with the ability to not only do standard heavy object damage, but also adds in the fact it does an incapacitate hit as well. So swinging this lamp around you get to do 3 points of damage, and a token for incap....

Now the desk is a little more interesting, first off its a light object, now some would think why a light object is so good, well heres the deal, may be used normally for a light object attack, or the best part, it adds +2 to the figures defence versus a single attack. It is destroyed after use, so think of Ra's al-Ghul with his 17 defence and add the desks +2 to go for a total of 19 your talking one hard ot hit target.

The other light objects are the mailbox, crate and bookcase. The other heavys are the computer and the soda machine. Now these are great for their heavy adn light stats, but just dont compair with the ones listed above.

SO what other 3D terrain can you use, well there are several companies that do paper print and fold or print and build buildings, vehicles and accesories. I'll see if I can find my links for them and post later.

You can also do what we have done in our venue, we created a base template for the size deminsions we wanted, then custom make buildings to fit. Useing photoshop we have been able to make some very nice comic book buildings, thing here is to not go for realistic, go for comic book. We have broken windows, grafiti and all sorts of extras on the buildings.

So using a 3D building, verticle movement is one floor per space of movement, ie a 5 story building from ground to roof takes a base 5 movement to get there. We use external fire escapes on buildings without interior play area. Those none flight and leap climb figures need to be able to get there and use it too. Think Shield Sniper on the top of a two story building being able to shoot past grounded figures and hindering terrain.

The use of 3D terrain also brings to play more realistic fights, its hard to look at the flat map and see the building edge and have figures side by side and not want to fight, because you forgot its elevated terrain. Witha 3D building you get the realisim of having the elevated terrain right in front of you.

At this time Im working on an interior of out venue to include the game tables with clix on them and product hanging from the walls. We already have a custom sculpt of the venue owner :)

3D terrain requires some house rules, and the easiest way we have foudn to do these is if the figure can do it in a comic book, then it can do it on the map, ie Spiderman jumping from one roof top to another without going down to ground level same thing for a flight figure, Superman can of course fly from roof to roof.

I'll get some pics of our 3D terrain and get it posted for you all to see.

So with this as a start, what would you like to see in a venue for terrain to play on? Do you have questions or ideas for using the terrain?

Have you used 3D terrain, what did yo think of it?

Micca

Summer Qualifier

Hi all,

just wondering if anyone played in this past weekends Summer Local Qualifiing matches? Did any of you win your matches? I didnt get to play, but I judged 2 days of the three day run :)

If you did win, what team did you use and what teams did you face. Our biggest nasty so far has been Amazo with the Trick shot feat and a desk 3d pbject. I haev seen it win at one venue and loose at another.

Anyone going to play in the Regional prelimenary events at the FF pre release events the weekend of June 24-26? I have heard that the participation prize alone is worth going :)

If you haev a team you want to run and want someone to look at it, post it and I'll be happy to look at it and give you ideas.
Whats your favorite Clix and why?

This is a question I haev asked several times at my venue and gotten some interesting responces from, wondering what you all think.

Now I haev to say that my favorite Clix is actually a team of them, its the 2000AD Judges, I have run them in many theme team games adn they always do me good, cant say that I always do good by them...bad dice bad bad dice.....lol

The team is

V Judge Dread 109 pts
V Judge Hershey 56 pts
V Brit City Judge 31 pts
V Johnny Alpha 64 pts
V Wulf Stienhammer 49 pts
U Judge Anderson 60 pts
LE Judge Barbra Hershey 49 pts
LE Search adn Destroy Agent Alpha 48 pts

Total 466 pts

I have played them in 500 pt games with and without feat cards, though putting a few feats on this team is very fun.

Now a couple of these are the UK Indy release figures. But this team has the ability to do some serious damage and witht eh two versions of JA you have double TK, not to mention the 2000AD TA, use the TA ona one on one basis for each fig, dont doa team buster move as it can cost you. Remember that the TA only allows you to id a figure or a team, but its a TA listing team not the opponats entire team.

With this team you have running shot, flurry, stealth, phasing, psychic blast, incapacitate, TK, super senses, toughness, energy shield, perplex, CCE, outwit..... NOt a bad combination of powers adn if you keep everyone within range Dreed with outwit and JA with TK can do some damage with those objects too.

Yes I know thigns like Legacy adn MM all have much better figures in them, but this is my favorite team to play......So, whats yours?

Okay. so I recently organized my comics. I found that I have collected alot of comics I don't really care to keep, by absorbing other people's collections. They do have value however, even though I've never been a big fan of Image. So they are up for grabs. At the end of the list is some comics wants I have, but I'll trade these comics for Clix, Toys or comics on my wants lists. check my signiture for links to those lists. happy hunting!
Please respond to this thread, PM boxes fill up so quick....

You can sweeten offers with loose figures including Dr. Fate, Dr Strange, Iron Man, Doctor Doom/Doombot, Easy Company soldiers, Easy company medics, SWAT (Any), etc...but I'm pretty set actually... so choice pieces for modding would be good sweeteners; commons I can do without. Unique Figures off the dial would be worth something to me.

I have other things to trade. I am willing to trade card games (MTG, SWCCG, STCCG, INWO, OP, DBZ, ..etc...) and toys (Transformers & EP1 SW figures and more) as well as pay outright in cash when its available to me.

I'm trying to figure out how the hell I'm going to get this year's Convention Exclusives. I go to DragonCon, but this year WizKids has decided not to attend. That means I won't be Able to get my Humongous Galactus Figure, Chrome Plated Silver Surfer and so-Invible-she's-not-there Invisible girl there! I'll have to either come up with some cash to attend another Con, or Pay a Buttload on eBay, or go without <shudder> anybody else got plans on how to get your hands on these guys? (Can you get one for me?)

I've only played with the boyfriend twice, and got my ass kicked both times...but it seems like lots of fun...:)

MUTANT MAYHEM brings us the goods!

included in boosters of the November release Mavel Exspansion, Mutant Mayhem will be a new game mechanic. Each booster will be packed with one card. One of three types will be randomly inserted into booster packs: Feat Cards, Battlefeild Condition Cards, or Bystander Tokens (a Card with a pop-out pog in the middle!).

This is what this game has been missing all along! The element of surprise. dramatic twists in gameplay. variety! Flexibility in the use of powers. this could skyrocket heroclix to the top of the gaming charts!

I love this and just can't wait.

It makes me feel a little small. I'm a very active member of HCRealms.com but thought I'd start branching out my tribes here on Tribe.net. just for Edification: I'm in Atlanta GA, plan on playing at DCI's DeckTeck challenge in Duluth next month, the first Cash Heroclix tourney ever, I will be attending DragonCon and playing all weekend at the end of the year, but since WizKids is not attending, I'm still trying to figure out how I'll get my hands on A Galactus and Silver Surfer LE this summer.... I collect, but don't get to play as much as I want to, which results in me having lots of cool mods, and a very well painted collection. at least my armies look good while I'm losing!
